Your first business video doesn’t need to explain your entire company.
That’s where people sometimes make recording harder than it needs to be. They try to fit the company story, services, experience, team, benefits, and contact information into one video.
There’s an easier way to get started: pick one thing you already explain well and talk about that.
Answer a Question You Get All the Time
Think about the last few conversations you’ve had with customers.
Was there a question that came up more than once?
Maybe customers want to know how your pricing works. Maybe they aren’t sure what happens after they schedule an appointment. Perhaps there’s something about your service that people regularly misunderstand.
Pick one of those questions and answer it on camera.
You already know the answer because you’ve probably given it dozens of times. That takes some of the pressure off trying to figure out what to say.
Explain One of Your Services
Another option is to choose one service and explain how it works.
Don’t list everything your company offers. Take one service and talk about who it’s for, what happens when someone hires you, and anything they should know beforehand.
For example, a title company could explain what a title search is rather than trying to explain the entire closing process.
A home inspector could explain what happens during an inspection instead of covering every type of inspection the company provides.
Keeping the subject narrow makes the video easier to record and easier to follow.
Talk About Something Customers Often Get Wrong
Every industry has a few things customers misunderstand.
Those make good video topics because you can clear up the confusion before someone even contacts you.
You could start with something as simple as:
“We get this question a lot…”
Then explain it the same way you would during a customer conversation.
There’s no need for a long introduction before getting to the answer.
Don’t Worry About Making the Perfect First Video
Your first recording is exactly that: your first one.
You’ll learn what feels comfortable, whether you prefer talking points or a script, how quickly you speak, and what you’d like to do differently next time.
You’ll also start noticing more things that could become videos.
One topic becomes another, and before long, you’ll have a running list of things you want to record.
Start With Something You Know
